Yamocuno Tanama Yucayeke Taino and Ku Karey Spiritual Circle, Inc. are very proud and pleased to announce the Honorees for the First Taino Awards celebrated on Saturday March 28, 2009 at the Famous Nuyorican Poets Café 236 E. 6th St. in N.Y.C.
The beautiful MC and hostess for this historical event was Caridad La Bruja “Kachianao” De La Luz.

Tabacu is sacred to the Taino. The smoke which comes out of the mouth is used to reach Creator and also used for healing.

Despite some minor disappointments the event was beautiful and filled with excitement. We have already started receiving nominations for The 2010 Taino Awards. The nomination ballot for 2010 will be posted in our website www.kukarey.com For more information email Bohike Candy Warixi.
The criterion for the nominee is: That they are to be giving, loyal, consistent, persistent, responsible, reliable, honorable leaders, spiritual, loving, and respectful of all Taino regardless of affiliation. They are to be educators, determined, powerful yet humble.

2009 Summer Solstice Ceremony Ku Karey Spiritual Circle, Inc. in collaboration with Yamocuno Tanama Yucayeke Taino will be celebrating the change of season in June. Time and place will be announced.
December 21, 2008 Winter Solstice Ceremony Join Kacike Marie Maweiaru and Yamocuno Tanama Yucayeke Taino and Ku Karey Spiritual Circle, Inc. members at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center located at 130 West Kingsbridge Road, Bronx, New York as they greet the new season. Bring your maracas, guamos, mayohuacan, guiros and hand drums. We will gather on the third floor of the Main building room 3D-22 back at 1:30 p.m. All are invited.
November 7, 2008 Noche Taino at Cemi Underground located at 112th Street and Lexington Avenue in New York City. Night was MC by the talented and beautiful Caridad Cachiana La Bruja De La Luz. October 12, 2008 The Sounds of the Guamo at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe located at 236 East 3rd Street between Avenue B and C in New York City. Come and share a night of sounding the conch shells and chanting in recognition of indigenous people who fought for freedom, their rights and spiritual beliefs so that their efforts were not in vain. Night will be MC by the talented and beautiful Caridad La Bruja De La Luz. Entrance Fee: $10.00.
